Hello, I’m a beauty blogger, and I have plenty of bad beauty habits. HAHAHA.
I never used to apply sunscreen AT ALL, but having started blogging and being exposed to the detrimental effects of not protecting my skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays, I always make sure that my beauty products contain some UV blocking functions. Sunscreen has become a necessity.
However, I still have a lot more bad habits to kick, and here they are. Share with me some of your bad beauty habits too! Heehee!
Bad Habit #1
Because everyone says applying sunscreen is important, and the face gets the hit the most with pigmentation and wrinkles, I apply sunscreen only on the face. That’s a very bad habit because the sun doesn’t choose to shine only on my face! But I always forget. =P
Bad Habit #2
If I’m going to the beach or planning to hang out all day in the sun, I put sunscreen on my body. I am aware that I should be slathering it at frequent intervals, but I don’t like the feeling of having sunscreen on my body because of the oily and sticky and chalky feel! I put my sunscreen on at the beginning of the day… and (purposely) forget about it after that.
Bad Habit #3
When I do remember to apply sunscreen on my body, I apply too little. Wearing sunscreen means spending the day smelling weird and feeling gross! I hope to smell less like an oil spill by applying less, which defeats the whole objective of having constant sun protection.
Prior to this photoshoot, I had already tried the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel for a week. Lemme tell ya, I am such a BIG FAN of its light and watery texture! 😀
One of the biggest reasons I never liked to apply sunscreen on my body was because those I had tried before always left an uncomfortably chalky finish on my body. When I scratched my skin, the sunscreen would go into my nails and make them chalky too. Eeeeeeee!!!!
Due to its watery texture, the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel applies well and gets absorbed very quickly into my skin. No need to massage round and round in circles to make my skin look less ghostly either.
The higher the SPF value, the thicker in texture a sunscreen usually is. However the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel with SPF50+ PA++++ retains its lightweight feel while providing maximum sun protection. It uses the same Aqua Rich technology found in the popular Biore Aqua Rich Watery Essence which is loved by many for its cool and refreshing feel.
With this sunscreen being so light and refreshing, I no longer hesitate to reapply! Reapplication of sunscreen is just as important as putting it on in the first place, so reapply the same amount every two hours. Also, remember that sunscreens should be applied 30 minutes before sun exposure to allow the ingredients to fully bind to the skin.
♡ Watery texture
♡ Non-greasy / chalky / sticky (I have an experiment at the end of this post!)
YAY! I think Bad Habit #2 can be easily eradicated!
RARRRR!!! SO MANY MOSQUITOES!
As if having a great face-neck-chest shade difference is not enough – my face is NC25, neck-chest is maybe NC35? – I rarely apply sun protection on my neck down. So my face stays in good condition while my body goes unprotected and keeps getting darker. I think my legs are NC50 HAHAHA. I must shower my body with more love! ❥❥❥
If there’s one hurdle sunscreen must overcome in order to find a place on the faces of more people, it would be that awful smell found in 99% (based on my biased, inaccurate assumption lol) of sunscreens in the market.
The first time I tried the new Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel, I was expecting the typical waxy smell to spill out.
So I actually went “Oh!” when I got a whiff of it. The smell is delightful and sweet, light and unobtrusive, and has a hint of citrus – a scent a non-fragrance lover like me wouldn’t wrinkle her nose at if someone else wore it and the wind blew towards me.
♡ No waxy smell
♡ Light, refreshing citrusy scent
♡ Doesn’t make me feel conscious about smelling like an oil miner
There! Bad Habit #3 down! 😀
Okie, now we’re left with Bad Habit #1 to conquer. This one is hard because it boils down to laziness HOHOHO.
I’m sure some of you can relate to that (the laziness) because Kao Singapore did a survey and the result is that only 30% of women between the age of 12-49 use a sunscreen daily! And even though the subject of the importance of sunscreen has been more prevalent over the last 5 years, the 30% remains. Oh dear, oh dear.
I’ve emphasized the importance of sun protection in many of my skincare posts, but let me reiterate – for you and myself.
It’s natural to understand that being out in the sun means being more susceptible to sun damage. We put on fancy hats, wear chic sunglasses, and bring out UV brollies to lunch!
But we often forget about the sun indoors.
Did you think that just because you work from home or are a 宅男 / 宅女 you don’t need sun protection? Even if you work inside, you are still exposed to ultraviolet radiation, especially if you work near windows, which generally filter out UVB but not UVA rays. If you’re outside but it’s gloomy, UV rays can still penetrate through clouds, meaning overcast skies won’t protect you from sun damage. It’s best to lube up even when the sun isn’t shining!
Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel SPF50+ PA++++ provides maximum level of protection against both UVA and UVB rays:
SPF50+: Blocks up to 98% of UVB rays, which causes burns
PA++++: Industry’s highest level of protection against ageing UVA rays. It’s the maximum level of protection against UV damage
Experiment time, jeng-jeng! ^_^
I wanted to see just how LESS greasy/sticky the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel is compared to Brand X.
Result: It is not any less greasy/sticky, it is TOTALLY NOT greasy/sticky at all!
Equal time and effort were spent on blending both products. You can see from the above picture that Brand X leaves a shiny (greasy?) surface while the Biore is well-absorbed into my skin.
Let’s test it further with an oil blotting sheet!
Brand X’s oily residue adhered to and soaked the sheet upon placing it on my skin, while Biore… goodness, I could not even make the sheet stay put. It kept flying away as there was nothing to make the sheet adhere to my skin. The Biore UV Aqua Watery Gel left my skin too smooth LOL!
Had to resort to using the bottle to make it stay in place HAHAHA!
Despite all that forceful pressing (believe me, I pressed HARD) with the bottle on my skin, Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel’s sheet shows almost no traces of oil. Brand X’s sheet on the other hand is thoroughly soaked.
Sun Protection Must Start Early
I would recommend that you go right out to get a bottle of the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel because I know you’ll love it right away, but if you’d like to try-try frst, I’m giving away:
